Job Description

A Health Information Technician organizes and manages health data in both paper and electronic systems. They ensure the accuracy, accessibility, and security of medical records and may also work with coding diagnoses and procedures for billing and insurance purposes.

Key Responsibilities:
Maintain Medical Records: Organize, update, and store patient health records in a secure and organized way.
Ensure Accuracy: Verify that patient data is accurate and up to date, making sure all information is entered correctly.
Manage Health Data: Work with electronic health records (EHR) systems to input and retrieve patient information.
Ensure Privacy: Protect patient confidentiality by following privacy laws and security protocols.
Assist with Billing: Help with coding medical procedures and diagnoses for insurance billing purposes.
Support Healthcare Providers: Provide doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff with the data they need to make informed decisions about patient care.

Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Associate degree or certificate in health information management.
Attention to Detail: Ability to keep records accurate and well-organized.
Tech-Savvy: Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) software and computer systems.
Knowledge of Privacy Laws: Understanding of laws like HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) to protect patient information.
Communication: Ability to work with healthcare teams and explain information clearly.
