Roles & Responsibilities
.The Litigation Advisor offers strategic guidance and legal expertise on litigation matters. This includes providing counsel on case management, legal strategy, risk analysis, settlement opportunities, and assisting with trial preparation. They help clients and legal teams navigate through the complexities of litigation processes.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Counsel and Advisory:Provide expert advice on various litigation matters, including commercial disputes, contract issues, regulatory actions, and intellectual property claims.Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of potential cases, offering risk assessments and suggesting optimal legal strategies.Advise on legal implications of settlement negotiations, mediation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution methods.
Case Management and Strategy:Assist in developing and implementing case strategies, including timelines, key deliverables, and legal resources required.Support the litigation team in preparing legal arguments and developing case theories.
Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, and briefs.
Litigation Risk Management:Help clients understand potential legal risks associated with their business operations and decisions.
Advise on legal exposure in commercial agreements and guide clients on how to minimize litigation risks.Provide insights into settlement discussions and strategies, ensuring clients’ best interests are considered.
Stakeholder Communication:Maintain communication with clients, legal teams, and other stakeholders, ensuring all parties are informed on case developments and potential strategies.Liaise with external counsel, experts, and witnesses to support case preparation.
Trial Preparation Support:Collaborate with trial attorneys to prepare for court hearings or trials, ensuring the case is well-supported with necessary documentation, expert witnesses, and evidence.Conduct legal research to support trial preparation, helping to identify precedents or relevant case law.
Monitoring Legal Developments:Stay updated on changes in legislation, case law, and legal precedents that may impact ongoing or future litigation.Advise clients and teams on how new legal developments affect ongoing litigation or compliance.
Report and Documentation:Prepare regular updates and detailed reports on case progress for internal teams and clients.
Ensure that all case files, records, and documentation are accurate, well-organized, and compliant with legal requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in relevant jurisdictions (bar membership).
Experience:At least 3–5 years of experience in litigation, either in a law firm, in-house corporate environment, or with a government agency.Demonstrated experience in managing complex litigation matters and advising clients on litigation strategies.
Knowledge and Skills:In-depth understanding of civil litigation, legal research, trial procedures, and alternative dispute resolution methods.Strong analytical skills to assess the merits of cases, legal arguments, and risks.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal information clearly to clients and non-legal stakeholders.Proficiency in legal document management systems, case management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple cases or projects simultaneously.
Desirable Skills:Experience in specific areas of law (e.g., intellectual property, commercial law, or employment law).
Strong negotiation skills and experience in settlement discussions or alternative dispute resolution.
Ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
Work Environment:
Typically office-based, although remote or hybrid work may be available depending on the organization.
May require occasional travel for court hearings, depositions, or meetings with clients and experts.
Fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, especially during active litigation phases.
