Roles & Responsibilities
A Knitting Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting knitting machines to produce high-quality knitted fabrics. This role involves ensuring that production processes run smoothly, fabric specifications are met, and machinery functions optimally to meet production targets in the textile industry.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up and configure knitting machines (circular, flatbed, or warp knitting machines) according to fabric specifications.
- Load yarns into knitting machines and adjust machine settings for different fabric types and designs.
- Monitor machine performance to ensure fabric consistency and quality.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues with knitting machines, including resolving faults and breakdowns.
- Perform regular maintenance, such as cleaning, lubrication, and replacing worn parts.
- Minimize downtime by identifying and solving issues promptly to maintain production schedules.
Quality Control & Fabric Inspection
- Inspect knitted fabrics for defects such as uneven stitches, dropped stitches, or tension problems.
- Adjust machine settings to correct fabric defects and ensure consistency across production runs.
- Work with quality control teams to ensure that all knitted products meet specified standards.
Process Optimization & Efficiency
- Continuously monitor production processes to ensure maximum machine efficiency and minimum waste.
- Suggest and implement improvements in knitting techniques to optimize production output and reduce material costs.
- Collaborate with team members to develop more efficient production workflows.
Training & Safety Compliance
- Train new technicians and operators on machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Ensure that all safety protocols are followed when operating machinery and handling materials.
- Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety regulations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Textile Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in knitting machine operation and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of knitting machine mechanics, yarn properties, and fabric structures.
- Experience with circular, flatbed, or warp knitting machines.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical or electrical issues in knitting machines.
- Knowledge of textile quality control procedures and fabric inspection.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
