Roles & Responsibilities of Radiologic Technologist
A Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic imaging examinations such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs to assist physicians in diagnosing medical conditions. They ensure patient safety, maintain imaging equipment, and follow precise imaging protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take X-rays: Use X-ray machines and other imaging equipment to capture images of bones, organs, and tissues.
- Prepare Patients: Explain procedures to patients, help them get into the right position, and ensure they’re comfortable during the scan.
- Operate Equipment: Set up and operate imaging equipment, ensuring it’s functioning correctly.
- Ensure Safety: Follow safety protocols to protect patients and themselves from unnecessary radiation.
- Maintain Records: Keep accurate records of images and patient information.
- Assist Doctors: Provide the images to physicians to help them diagnose and plan treatments.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: An associate degree in radiologic technology and a state license or certification.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of how to use imaging equipment and take accurate images.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to capture clear, high-quality images.
- Communication: Explain procedures and comfort patients while taking images.
- Safety Knowledge: Understand and apply safety measures to reduce radiation exposure.
