Job Description
A Switching Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunication switching systems used for routing voice and data traffic across networks. This role involves working with both traditional and digital switching equipment, ensuring that telecommunication services are properly connected and that network outages or disruptions are addressed promptly. The Switching Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the quality and reliability of telecom networks.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain telecommunication switching equipment (e.g., PBX, VoIP switches, cross-connects).
Perform troubleshooting and diagnostic tests to identify and resolve issues with switching systems and related equipment.
Monitor and maintain the integrity of network connectivity, ensuring optimal call quality and data transmission.
Work with network engineers and other technical teams to integrate switching systems with other network infrastructure components.
Respond to and resolve network outages, technical issues, and service disruptions in a timely manner.
Conduct regular system checks and preventative maintenance on switching equipment to minimize downtime.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and system configurations.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety protocols when working with telecommunication equipment.
Collaborate with vendors and service providers for equipment upgrades, repairs, and warranty support.
Assist with network upgrades and system migrations to newer switching technologies.
Provide technical support and training to junior technicians or other team members as needed.
Skils:-
Strong knowledge of IP routing and switching is required.
Good in Security technology domain with demonstrated expertise in the following areas – Firewall, Cisco ISE, IPS/IDS, Admission Control, encryption, VPN etc.
Design, implement, and maintain wireless networks using Cisco DNAC.
Hands-On experience with Cisco Wireless Products – WLC (Wireless LAN Controllers), Access Points (AP), MSE, Prime Infrastructure (PI) etc.
Deep understanding of IEEE 802.11 standards (a,b,g), 802.1x, Wi-Fi .
Knowledge of WLAN Security in the areas of authentication, encryption, IDS/IPS using Radius, AAA authentication, EAP, LEAP, PEAP, PSK.
