Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Network Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network infrastructures to protect an organization’s data and systems from unauthorized access, cyber threats, and vulnerabilities. This role involves configuring security tools, monitoring network activity, and responding to incidents to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems. The engineer works closely with IT teams, security analysts, and leadership to develop and enforce security policies, identify risks, and deploy advanced protection measures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and implementing secure network solutions.
- Monitoring network traffic for suspicious activity.
- Conducting regular network security assessments.
- Installing and configuring security hardware and software.
- Investigating security breaches and incidents.
- Ensuring compliance with security policies and regulations.
- Developing and updating security protocols.
- Performing vulnerability testing.
Collaborating with IT teams to enhance security.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Advanced certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Cisco
- Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA Security), or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) are preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in network security, IT security, or related roles.
- Hands-on experience with network security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and VPNs.
- Experience with security incident response and mitigation strategies.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and routing technologies.
- Proficiency in configuring and managing firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Fortinet) and other security appliances.
- Expertise in encryption technologies, VPNs, and secure network access controls.
- Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or CIS Controls.
Knowledge of vulnerability assessment and penetration testing tools (e.g., Nessus, Metasploit).
Analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and address security vulnerabilities and performance issues.
Additional Requirements
- Familiarity with cloud security solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Ability to implement and manage endpoint security solutions and security monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of compliance standards like GDPR, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills for maintaining security procedures and incident reports.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond effectively to incidents or breaches.
